Major New Features

Caché 4.1 is focused on application-deployment improvements, particularly for large systems and specifically in the areas of performance and scalability. The centerpiece is a next-generation database engine designed for order-of-magnitude capacity improvements in data, users, and workload.

The new features in Caché 4.1 are categorized below:

Caché System Enhancements that significantly improve Caché performance, database capacity, and buffer management, and necessitate changes to the Caché Write Image Journaling technology.
Caché ObjectScript Language Enhancements that include improved LOCK command performance, new BIT functions to manipulate bit-maps, and new SORT functions.
Caché Objects Enhancements — There are no significant changes for this release; however, you must recompile any Caché Objects applications if you are upgrading from a prior version of Caché.
SQL Enhancements that include SQL Read Committed Support.
Caché Server Pages Enhancements — There are no significant changes for this release.
Caché Utilities Enhancements that provide an interface to the new database allocation feature, an updated depiction of the new features of the LOCK command, and utilities with added functions and increased performance.
Software Corrections that have been included in this release.
