Introduction to the Track and Trace Cloud Service
This page introduces the Track and Trace cloud service for InterSystems Supply Chain Orchestrator™.
The Track and Trace service is a fully managed cloud service that you can use with any Supply Chain Orchestrator application. The Supply Chain Orchestrator application can be deployed in the cloud or can be on-prem; it is necessary only to have API connectivity.
Purpose
The Track and Trace cloud service enhances Supply Chain Orchestrator by connecting it to a shipment tracking service (Descartes MacroPoint) so that two key tasks can occur automatically:
-
The shipment tracking service receives tracking requests whenever there are shipments that should be tracked, according to the contract with the tracking service.
-
In response to updates from the shipment tracking service, the applicable objects in Supply Chain Orchestrator data model are updated to contain latest shipment data, including status changes, location data, trip events, scheduling alerts, and so on.
As a result, your Supply Chain Orchestrator solution can use the latest shipment data directly in its business KPIs, risk management, and analytics.
Architecture and Data Flow
The Track and Trace cloud service is designed to handle all communications between Supply Chain Orchestrator and the tracking service, as shown in the following diagram:

-
The Track and Trace cloud service scans Supply Chain Orchestrator to find shipments that need to be tracked; this is based on the properties of the shipment objects.
-
The Track and Trace cloud service creates tracking requests with Descartes MacroPoint.
-
Descartes MacroPoint sends shipment updates to the Track and Trace cloud service.
-
The Track and Trace cloud service updates the corresponding objects in Supply Chain Orchestrator.
